Hendon Under-21s first match for almost two months was a roaring success as they trounced FC Baresi 7-0. The victory lifted the Greens up to third in the Cherry Red Books Middlesex County League Division One Central & East table, directly above FC Baresi, but with a vastly superior goal difference. It also completed a double over the Salisbury Hall club, following the 5-0 victory at Chase Lodge in September.
It took 20 minutes for the ring-rust to get out of the Hendon system, and they took the lead at that time when Stephen Cunningham scored. Luke Cooke doubled the advantage 11 minutes later and, on the stroke of half-time, Cooke got his second of the afternoon.
Sixteen minutes into the second half, Cunningham got his second and the game was over as a contest. A minute later James, Iyala added further misery to Baresi with number five. And the seven-minute purple patch was completed when Cunningham turned his brace into a hat-trick. In the final minute, Dean Roper got his name on the scoresheet to make it 7-0.
Joint manager Graham Bourne said, "I wasn't able to make it to the game so Eamon Finn and Marco Amaldi took the team. They told me we were absolutely outstanding and totally dominated the game. Stephen Cunningham has now scored nine times in six games and looks to be a real prospect. Even though he got a hat-trick, both Marco and Eamon agreed that the man of the match was James Iyala. He scored one of the goals and he created five of the others."
