An excellent stoppage time penalty save by Berkley Laurencin ensured that Hendon reached the last 64 of the FA Trophy for the first time since the 2004-05 season. The final score against Oxford City this afternoon was a 2-1 win.
The first half was an evenly matched affair, but it was the visitors who took their chance just before half-time when Declan Benjamin fired home a rebound after a team-mate had hit the bar. Earlier in the half Lee O'Leary had an effort cleared off the line.
The Greens took the game to their opponents in the second half and deservedly equalised when Carl McCluskey slammed the ball home from the edge of the area in the 66th minute. Six minutes later they were ahead when Jefferson Louis sent an inch perfect cross into the path of the onrushing Anthony Thomas who fired the ball into the net.
There was last minute panic when a penalty was given away for handball deep into stoppage time, but Laurencin made an excellent save at full stretch to ensure that no replay was required.
