This weekend sees our second FA Trophy Super Sunday of the season as we entertain Oxford City in the third qualifying round.
Oxford come into the game on the back of slightly improved form, having beaten Stockport County 4-1 last weekend, and then drawing 2-2 at Histon on Tuesday evening. As a result they have moved out of the relegation zone in Conference North and lie in 19th place with 12 points from their 14 games.
It is over 15 years since we last faced each other, and that game, which was played on 28th March 1998 at Court Place Farm, ended in a 2-0 win for us. Our current management team of Gary McCann, Freddie Hyatt and Junior Lewis all played in the game, and the goals were scored by Paul Whitmarsh and Lewis.
Going back to 1963 when we first met Oxford in the Isthmian League, we have played them a total of 35 times (34 in the league and once in the FA Amateur Cup), winning 22, drawing 7 and losing 6. In the process we have scored 65 goals, conceding just 28.
Gary McCann and the squad come into the game on the back of two good wins over Bideford and Metropolitan Police, and will be keen to continue the run in this competition. Gary has virtually a full squad to select from, something that has rarely happened in recent years.
Kick off at Earlsmead is at 3.00pm on Sunday afternoon, and our normal admission prices of £10 adults, £5 senior citizens & students and free for under 16s will apply.
If a replay is required, it will take place at Court Place Farm on Tuesday evening at 7.45pm.
We look forward to seeing you all on Sunday.
