Hendon cruised into the second qualifying round of the FA Cup this afternoon as they beat Biggleswade United 7-1. This now means that the Greens have progressed through the round they entered the FA Cup in each of the last 28 seasons.
Just after Tom Cookman had hit the bar for the visitors, the scoring was opened in the 19th minute by Tony Taggart, and doubled fourteen minutes later by the same player. Jack Bennett made it 3-0 shortly before half-time with a humdinger of a strike that gave the keeper no chance.
It took the Greens nearly half an hour to add to the scoreline despite controlling the game with some excellent passing football, and it was Chris Seeby who scored the fourth, opening his account for the club in the process.
Shortly afterwards, Anthony Thomas entered the fray along with Aaron Morgan, and the final few minutes belonged to them. In the 84th minute, Morgan set up Thomas for goal number 5, and three minutes later, the same combination made it 6-0.
A needless challenge allowed Angus Stewart to score a consolation from the penalty spot as the game entered stoppage time, but there was still time for Thomas to complete a rapid fire hat-trick to complete the scoring for the afternoon.
Hendon's performance was thoroughly professional, with plenty of excellent play during the game. But plenty of credit must also go to Biggleswade, who also tried to play a passing game for the full 90 minutes and didn't resort to kicking out through frustration as the game went against them.
