The Greens will face one of three teams in the first qualifying round of the FA Cup in a couple of months time.
Of the three times we could face, we have played Leighton Town and Biggleswade United once each in competitive games, and have never played Irchester United.
Leighton Town, who finished in 21st place in the Evo-Stick Southern League Central Division, a level below us, last season, and will play in the same division next season, beat us 1-0 in a League Cup tie in November 1996. Leighton Town are based in Leighton Buzzard in Bedfordshire.
We faced another Bedfordshire side in Biggleswade United in the FA Cup in September 2005 when we ran out 6-0 winners courtesy of a John Frendo hat-trick and goals from Ross Pickett, Youness Nabil and not forgetting Mark Burgess's only first team strike for the club. Biggleswade play two levels below us in the Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division, and finished in 18th position last season.
Finally, we have never faced Irchester United. Irchester is a village in Northamptonshire near the towns of Wellingborough and Rushden. This is only the club's third season in the FA Cup, having first entered in the 2011-12 season. Last season they played in the United Counties League Premier Division, but finished 21st and were relegated to Division One, so will be playing three levels below us this coming season.
Irchester United face Biggleswade United on their home ground in the Extra Preliminary Round on Saturday 17th August, with the winners travelling to Leighton Town two weeks later. We then face the winners of that on the weekend of 14th & 15th September. As mentioned yesterday, the date will be confirmed much nearer the time.
