Hendon completed a quick-fire double over Hastings United this evening with a 2-0 win, in a game that ended with 4 visiting players seeing red.
The first half was largely uneventful, with the Greens taking the lead in the 21st minute courtesy of Lee O'Leary. The first half hour of the second period was also fairly uneventful, although Hastings did have three booked for dissent in that time. Then chaos ensued!
In the 74th minute, Jamie Crellin was about to replace Freddie Warren, but was asked to remove his undershorts that were not the same colour as his kit shorts. He responded with a volley of abuse to the officials, and was shown the red card. Warren was allowed to continue, so Hastings still had eleven on the pitch, but was replaced by Ryan Murphy shortly afterwards.
In the 80th minute, Hastings were reduced to nine men on the pitch when Danny Ellis and Tom Vickers were both dismissed. Ellis was sent off for a high dangerous challenge, and Vickers was shown his second yellow card for dissent in the aftermath.
Then, as the game entered stoppage time, Hastings player-manager, and unused sub, Sean Ray was also dismissed for foul and abusive language, making it four red cards for the visitors, two of whom were unused substitutes.
Hendon then secured the points deep in stoppage time courtesy of the returning Isaiah Rankin following a couple of weeks out injured.
The result moves the Greens up to 10th place in the table, a position that looked very unlikely back in December.
