The first team put in a superb performance to beat third placed Canvey Island 3-0 this afternoon.
The Greens were the better side for much of the game, and were deserved winners. The opening goal came in the 12th minute when Casey Maclaren set up Dean Cracknell. The second came in the 59th minute when a beautiful ball from Lee Angol set up Junior Morais to score from outside the box, before Belal Aite-Ouakrim scored a stoppage time goal after one of his trademark runs.
The goals aside, it was the performance that left the travelling fans purring, as the Seagulls were made to look very ordinary, with the home side registering just one shot on target, which hardly troubled Sean Thomas. The back four of Howard Hall, Sam Flegg, Elliott Brathwaite and Scott Cousins were all in commanding form. Mention must also be made of Kevin Maclaren, Jack Connors and substitutes Dave Diedhiou and Isaiah Rankin who also made very important contributions to the performance.
The result moves the Greens into the top half of the table for the first time this season - and they will be keen to continue their good form at Bury Town on Tuesday evening.
