Hendon won their first league match of the campaign this afternoon with a 2-1 victory over Leiston, gaining revenge for the FA Trophy defeat a fortnight ago.
In front of the highest crowd of the season, boosted by spectators attending as part of Non League Day, the Greens took the game to Leiston and were rewarded in the 9th minute when Greg Ngoyi slid the ball home.
Six minutes later the lead was doubled when Ngoyi fired the ball home from a cross delivered by Elliott Charles, and shortly afterwards Ngoyi had a chance to complete his hat-trick but his shot went narrowly wide of the target.
Leiston gradually came back into the game, and pulled a goal back in the 35th minute through Emmanuel Osei, and had a couple of other half-chances before the break.
The second half wasn't pretty, and neither keeper had a huge amount to do. Hendon's best chances fell to Michael Murray, whose scissor shot flew just over the bar, and Charles, who saw his drive fly into the arms of the keeper. Meanwhile at the other end, the defence and Berkley Laurencin were in fine form, with Laurencin making one particularly fine stop low down near one of the posts.
Unfortunately other results went against the Greens, so they remain in 21st place in the league table.
