Hendon finished the season on a high note, winning 7-1 at Aveley this afternoon, but other results went against them and so the play-off dream was ended.
On a very wet afternoon, the Greens took the lead in the 35th minute when Greg Ngoyi converted a spot-kick, but otherwise it was a half with very little of note, and there was no sign of what was to come in the second half.
Hendon scored 5 goals in 15 minutes, starting with a penalty from Scott Shulton, and then a 7 minute hat-trick from Isaiah Rankin, before Elliott Charles scored to make it 6-0. Berkley Laurencin continued his good record with penalties, saving a spot-kick from Kayan Kalipha, but in the 81st minute Liam Thomas pulled a goal back for the already relegated home side.
Elliott Godfrey restored the six goal advantage as the game moved into stoppage time, and when the game ended shortly afterwards, the Hendon players and management were applauded off the pitch, not only in appreciation of their performance this afternoon, but more so for the efforts they have all put in for what has been a very enjoyable season.
