The end of the season seems to have suddenly sprung itself on us, and tomorrow afternoon we travel to Aveley for the final league game of the campaign.
Whilst we travel in the knowledge that even if we win, the chances are we won't be in the play-offs, Gary McCann and the squad are very keen to ensure that we finish on a high note with 3 points - so that we know we've done everything we can to keep our small chance of a play-off spot alive.
As mentioned earlier in the week, in order for us to make the play-offs, as well as making sure we win at Aveley, we need Lewes to drop points at home to Harrow Borough, and Bury Town to lose at Tooting & Mitcham United, and also a six goal swing is required between ourselves and Bury. But as we all know - it's not over till it's over, and we'll keep believing until we know it is impossible.
Aveley, who are already relegated, have found their second & third seasons in the Premier Division much tougher than the first when they finished in third place, losing to Boreham Wood in the play-off semi-finals. When we played them earlier in the season at Vale Farm, a goal from Elliott Charles ensured a share of the points in a 1-1 draw. It was another of those days, and there has been a lot of them this season, when we were decimated by injury and illness.
We hope that as many of you as possible are able to make the trip to Aveley, and let's make sure that we all give the squad a great send-off at the end of the game to celebrate what has been a thoroughly enjoyable season, whether or not we make it into the play-offs.
