Following this afternoon's game, the end of season awards were presented in front of a disappointing turnout by manager Gary McCann, Supporters' Association chairman Mike Hogan and Football Club chairman Simon Lawrence.
Gary McCann went first, noting that he had hoped a few more supporters would have stayed after the game, for the players' benefit, but also thanking everyone involved with the club - both on the playing side and away from the pitch. He presented Most Improved Player first to Berkley Laurencin, before moving onto the coveted Player's Player award which went to club captain Scott Cousins. Finally, he presented his own Manager's Player of the Season award to the reliable Ryan Wharton.
Mike Hogan went next, presenting the Supporter of the Year award to Doug Smith, who has been one of the more active helpers around the club, spending time on the Trust board in recent years as well as helping on a regular basis in the turnstiles on matchdays. He then moved onto the Supporters Player of the Year award, with Wharton again winning the vote.
Club chairman Simon Lawrence presented the final award - the Chariman's award - selecting Michael Harte, treasurer for both the Supporters' Trust since it was formed and the football club since the Trust took over the club. Mike has been vital to the successful running of both organisations behind the scenes, and very much an unsung hero behind some of the more public faces of the club.
We would like to apologise to any supporters who missed the event due to the late publicity around it - unfortunately due to the work around Vale Farm and in particular in the clubhouse, it has been difficult for us to commit to organising anything in particular. Obviously we hope to ensure that next season we have our plans in place and publicised well in advance of our final home league game of the season.
