Hendon were beaten by a last gasp goal this afternoon in a pulsating game at Vale Farm, the final score being a 4-3 win to Bury Town.
The visitors took the lead on the half hour mark when Danny Cunningham converted a spot kick following a foul in the box by James Parker, and eight minutes later they doubled their lead when Roscoe Hipperson took advantage of a handling error by Berkley Laurencin to knock the ball into the net.
Neither of the visitors goalscorers made it to half time as they picked up injuries, and the Greens took advantage of Bury having to rearrange themselves. Greg Ngoyi scored his 10th goal of the season as the game moved into stoppage time, and before the half-time whistle blew he equalised with a fine run and finish having broken clear of the last defender.
The second half saw both sides continue to play some excellent football, and Bury regained the lead in the 52nd minute through Kieran Leabon. The Greens piled on the pressure, but, as has so often been the case recently, were unable to convert their chances. That said, credit must go to Bury keeper Marcus Garnham who made at least two superb saves to keep his side ahead.
However, Hendon refused to give up, and appeared to have earnt the point their performance deserved when a ball from Michael Lewis was turned into the net by Elliott Charles. That goal came two minutes into a minimum of four minutes of stoppage time. Sadly, a failure to keep possession of the ball saw Bury slide the ball out to Billy Clark, who slid the ball under Laurencin in the final minute of stoppage time to earn all three points.
Despite the disappointing result for the Greens, it was an excellent game of football, with both teams playing the game the right way - as has been the case in previous meetings against Bury Town.
