Hendon moved up to seventh place in the Isthmian League this afternoon, behind local rivals Wealdstone on goal difference, thanks to a 2-0 win over Cray Wanderers at Vale Farm. The first half saw a number of chances spurned at either end, before the Greens made the breakthrough just before half time. Guentchev was sent clear down the left channel, but as he closed in on the 'keeper, he saw Yacine Hamada unmarked across the six yard box. The young Bulgarian rolled the ball across to his team mate where Hamada had time to pick his spot.
It didn't take long in the second half for Hendon to double their lead with an early contender for goal of the season. An attack looked like breaking down on the right hand side of the penalty area, but Cray were unable to clear their lines and the ball came out to Jamie Busby, around 25 yards from goal. The midfielder struck the ball superbly leaving the goalkeeper to dive to his right in vain. Hamada was unlucky to hit the post with a scissor kick shortly after, but neither side could fashion a further goal.
