Farnborough Town eventually proved to be too good for Hendon although they were held for 65 minutes by the champions elect. At times it looked like Hendon could come away with all three points until the leaders showed their quality in the second half. Goals from Lenny Piper and Barry Laker were enough to give Farnborough all three points, although Hendon have just nine days to wait to gain revenge.
