Hendon lost their first pre-season friendly 4-0 to a very strong Southend United side. Mark Rawle opened the scoring for Southend from the edge of the box and shortly afterwards, Bramble scored a second. Hendon, who included new signings Ricci Crace and Jon-Barrie Bates amongst the new faces in their line-up went further behind on the stroke of half time Kevin Maher scored a fine solo effort to make it 3-0. Both sides made wholesale changes at half time and a fourth goal was added mid-way through the second half by Rawle to seal a comfortable victory for the Division 3 side.
