Speaking exclusively to Greensnet this afternoon, manager Dave Anderson announced that he has secured the signature of goalkeeper Dave King from Hastings United. The 27 year old won the players player of the year award last season, and was highly sought after by many clubs throughout the Dr Martens League and the Ryman League. Dave said that he was very excited by the signing and that the club had done very well to secure the 6ft4 keeper.
As a result, both David Hook and Gary McCann have been released by the club. Dave said that he had met Hook face to face and that he took the news well. Hook had played over 100 games for the club and won the players player of the year award in 2002. Dave continued by saying that he hopes the supporters will treat Hook well should he return to the club as an opponent next season.
Dave also thanked Gary McCann for his efforts with the club over the past six years, in which he made nearly 200 appearances. His return suited both the club and Gary when he came back during last season. Dave wished both keepers all the best for the future, a feeling that he is sure will be shared by all the supporters.
Dave also said that he was aiming to sign a couple of young keepers for the reserve team, and that there would possibly be one or two more new faces in the first team squad as we go into the new season.
