The Dons repeated their 1-0 victory of last season over Canvey Island, this time Steve Butler scoring what turned out to be the only goal in the 47th minute after receiving a good pass from Steve Forbes before firing the ball past Ashley Harrison into the net. Canvey Island put the Hendon defence under a lot of pressure throughout the game but found Dave King in inspired form, making a number of point blank saves in the first half. Despite having plenty of possession in the second half, Canvey failed to create very much and Hendon came away with the three points their hard work deserved.
