Hendon put in a battling performance at Hayes, but it was their discipline that let them down as they lost 3-1. Three players were dismissed, all for violent conduct. Mark Burgess was sent off after 30 minutes, while Martin Randall and Jon-Barrie Bates were both shown the red card with ten minutes to go. Hayes had taken the lead in the 7th minute when a rare error from Iain Duncan let in Kevin Warner who finished well. Their second goal came four minutes into the second half courtesy of Mark Molesley before a well worked corner saw Eugene Ofori head the ball home in the 61st minute. Hayes regained their two goal advantage when Peter Holsgrove scored an excellent goal. Credit must be given to the players for working hard for the full 90 minutes in very difficult circumstances.
