The first team start on the county cup trail tomorrow evening as they entertain Enfield Town in the first round of the Middlesex Senior Cup. Our opponents come into the game on a disappointing run of results - no win in the last six competitive games. Their most recent game was a 1-0 defeat at Potters Bar Town on Saturday afternoon. They currently lie in 11th place with 22 points from 14 games. In their squad are two former Hendon players, defender Mark Kirby and midfielder Sam Byfield, and we look forward to welcoming them back to Vale Farm.
Our two teams last met competitively in December 2004 in the same competition when we ran out 5-0 winners at Claremont Road. Mark Nicholls scored a hat-trick, whilst John Frendo and Dave Sargent also found the back of the net. We have met in two friendlies since then, both at Goldstone Road, and both resulting in victories for the Greens.
Gary McCann will be keen to ensure that the squad improve on last season's performance in the competition when we were beaten on penalties at Hanworth Villa. It is a competition that we have won on numerous occasions, and it would be great to have a real go at regaining the trophy this season.
Kick off at Vale Farm is at 7.45pm, and our normal matchday prices of £9 adults, £5 concessions and £1 under 16s will apply. The programme will be a single folded A4 sheet and will be given away free with admission. The game will be played to a conclusion tomorrow, with extra time and penalties if required.
