Hendon's FA Cup dreams were ended by ten man Chelmsford City this afternoon, with the home side winning 3-2 to progress to the second round.
Chelmsford were comfortably the better side in the first half, and they took the lead in the 8th minute through Sam Higgins. It was no great surprise when the lead was doubled twenty minutes later by Billy Bricknell, but the Greens were given a lifeline shortly before half-time.
Chelmsford keeper James Pullen was sold short by a backpass from one of his defenders, and Aaron Morgan nipped in to take the ball. Pullen made a challenge with his studs up and brought Morgan down, and the referee didn't have any hesitation in showing Pullen the red card. Jamie Busby stepped up to score the spot kick.
The second half was a much more even affair, but in the 68th minute Chelmsford restored their two goal advantage when Anthony Cook found himself in space in the left channel, and he fired a powerful shot past Berkley Laurencin.
Hendon reduced the lead with ten minutes to go when Lee O'Leary fed the ball into Busby who was able to score his second goal of the afternoon. The Greens had a couple of chances to score an equaliser, the best chance falling to Lubo Guentchev, but the home side held on to progress into the next round.
