Hendon put up a spirited performance this afternoon as they lost 4-1 at Tonbridge Angels. The afternoon got off to a bad start when the coach only arrived at 2.40pm after being stuck in traffic, and within 6 minutes of the game starting, it got worse when John Frendo was sent off for apparently striking a defender in the face with an elbow as he tried to shrug off his opponent who was pulling his shirt. Tonbridge opened the scoring in the 18th minute when Craig Roser fired home from a tight angle. Hendon's best first half chance came shortly before half time when Wayne Carter directed the ball just wide of the post. There was still time however for Tonbridge to double their lead through Anthony Hogg.
The scoreline became 3-0, when Tonbridge were awarded with a penalty which was converted by Tony Dolby. There was no complaint from the Hendon defenders about the foul, but they were convinced it took place outside the area. However, the Greens never gave up and continued to play some good football which was rewarded in the 75th minute when Dave Hunt slammed the ball into the net from a rebound. Luke Piscina restored the three goal advantage five minutes later, and shortly before the end of the game came the second red card when Mark Nicholls was dismissed for allegedly spitting at the referee.
