Hendon went top of the Ryman League Premier Division this evening following their 1-0 win at Chelmsford City. If truth be told, the Greens were fortunate to come away with all three points as Chelmsford piled on the pressure in the second half. However, the home side found Dave King in fine form, Hendon defenders clearing the ball off the line, or saw their shots go wide or over the bar. The goal, which turned out to be decisive, came in the 31st minute when Mark Nicholls played a corner short to Wayne Carter, who in turn played back to Nicholls who crossed it into the area for Eugene Ofori to head home from close range. Hendon did have a few chances to extend the lead on the counter attack in the second period, but like their hosts, either shot wide or over the bar. When the final whistle came, it was greeted with much relief by the travelling Hendon support. The Greens are now two points clear of Yeading, but the Ding have two games in hand, the first of which is against Harrow Borough tomorrow evening.
