Gary McCann's reign as Hendon manager started well this afternoon as the Greens ended their barren run of results with a 2-1 victory over a well organised and hardworking Cheshunt side, for whom Ross White shone in midfield. The game started perfectly for Hendon when they took the lead in the 2nd minute, Dave Sargent heading home across from John Frendo having been left unmarked at the far post. Cheshunt had the bulk of possession in the first half, and were rewarded in the 39th minute when a freekick from White squirmed through the grasp of Dave King and just crossed the line before King could scramble it back. Hendon came out in the second half in determined style, and had a great chance to take the lead when a Sargent drive was tipped onto the post by Michael Kalli. However, a minute into stoppage time, Sargent had the final word when he received a long pass over the top by Jason O'Connor, took a touch and drove it across Kalli into the far corner of the net.
