Will Viner was the hero last night as Hendon won the London Senior Cup for the first time in 40 years following a penalty shoot-out against Croydon Athletic at Kingsmeadow. The Rams took the lead early in the second half through Sam Clayton, before James Bent equalised in the 70th minute with a fine shot from 20 yards. Five minutes into extra time Glenn Garner put the Greens head with a fiercely struck low drive, before Richard Blackwell equalised for Croydon in the 114th minute.
And so the tie moved into penalties. Viner made a fine save from Croydon's first penalty. Danny Dyer converted for Hendon, before Croydon scored their second. Marc Leach then scored, Viner saved another Croydon spot kick and then Bent scored clinically. The fourth penalty from Croydon was a very poor effort which Viner easily saved to spark huge celebrations by players and supporters alike.
