Gary McCann is delighted to announce that he has secured the services of a former Newcastle United striker ahead of tonight's game against Kingstonian.
31 year old Paul Robinson was born in Sunderland, and began his career at Darlington, before moving to the Magpies in 1998. He made his debut in August 1999 at home to Aston Villa, before making his first start against Wimbledon later that month. His next start was rather controversial as he was selected by Ruud Gullit ahead of the £22million strikeforce of Alan Shearer and Duncan Ferguson against his home town club. Gullit lost his job the following day. Paul scored one goal for Newcastle, against CSKA Sofia in the UEFA Cup.
He then moved to Wimbledon for £1.5million in July 2000, and spent time on loan at a number of clubs including Burnley and Dundee United. He then moved to Blackpool, before having spells at Hartlepool United, York City, Whitley Bay, Torquay United and Consett. He joined Hayes & Yeading United during the close season, and following appearances in the Capital League for their reserves, an agreement has been reached between the two clubs for Paul to gain some much needed first team football with us.
We warmly welcome Paul to the club, and hope that he has a successful time with us.
