Hendon started 2009 with a 2-0 victory at Ashford Town (Middlesex) this afternoon, taking advantage of postponements around the league to get back in touch with the pack ahead of them. It wasn't until stoppage time that the Greens took the lead, Harry Hunt playing in James Bent who beat home 'keeper Paul Burgess for a 1-0 halftime lead. However, things got a lot harder during the half time break as Mark Leach was dismissed, allegedly having raised his hands to an opponent, leaving the Dons starting the second half with just 10 men. However, by defending deep Hendon managed to keep Ashford relatively quiet and indeed looked dangerous on the break. Reward for an excellent performance came in stoppage time as Byfield curled the ball in off the post to seal the points. The result moves the Greens up one place in the league into 20th place.
