The first team return to league action this weekend as they make the trip to play AFC Hornchurch. The Urchins have had a mixed start to the season, picking up 7 points from their 6 games played so far. Their most recent league match was a 3-0 home defeat against Canvey Island, but they bounced back from that with an 8-2 demolition of Oxhey Jets in the FA Cup last weekend.
Last season's fixture at Bridge Avenue was something of a thriller, with the Greens twice coming back from two goals down to earn a point in a 4-4 draw. Lubomir Guentchev was the hero with a hat-trick, whilst James Bent scored the other goal. The Urchins goals came from four individuals, with Jo Flack, Wayne Gray, Reece Prestedge and Mark Janney finding the back of the net.
In the return fixture at Vale Farm on the final day of the season, the Greens won 3-2. The game will always be remembered by the superb goal scored by Guentchev. The other scorers for Hendon were Scott Cousins and Brad Thomas, whilst Elliot Styles and Frankie Williams were on target for AFC Hornchurch.
Admission at Bridge Avenue is £9.00 adults, £6.00 concessions and £2.00 under 16s and the game will kick off at 3.00pm.
There is substantial travel disruption this weekend on the London Underground. Most importantly, the District Line is closed between Aldgate East and Dagenham East disrupting the most obvious route to the game for those on public transport. Other closures include a complete closure on the Circle Line, the Hammersmith & City Line is closed between Kings Cross and Barking, the Jubilee is closed between Stanmore and West Hampstead, the Metropolitan is closed between Uxbridge and Harrow-on-the-Hill and between Baker Street and Aldgate, whilst the Piccadilly Line is closed between South Harrow and Uxbridge.
The best alternative option is to travel to Fenchurch Street (nearest tube station is Tower Hill on the District Line) and use mainline services to Upminster. Travelcards, and pay-as-you-go Oyster cards can be used on this service.
Trains operate approximately every 10 minutes from Fenchurch Street to Upminster, and the journey takes 25 minutes. We would advise that the last train from Fenchurch Street that would allow to you comfortably walk to the ground is the one that departs at 1410.
Upminster station is about half a mile from AFC Hornchurch's ground. Upon leaving the station, turn left. When you reach the traffic lights, turn right onto St Mary's Lane. Bridge Avenue is the third turning on the left, and you will find the ground entrance after about 300 yards on the right.
