Hendon avoided the bananaskin of a home tie against Ryman Division One side Cheshunt this afternoon, going through courtesy of a 4-1 win at Vale Farm. While the teams reached half time at 0-0, there always looked to be goals in the game, with Hendon spurning any number of chances but looking fortunate at the other end to avoid conceeding a penalty as James Reading collided with a forward late in the half. The second half made good on the early promise, with Cheshunt taking an early lead, Chris Meikle seizing on James Parker's uncertainty and cooly sliding the ball past Reading.
However, the Greens got their tails up and settled the game with three goals in under five minutes. Belal Aite-Oukrim opened the home side's account after being sent through in the 56th minute before Aaron Morgan held off his defender just two minutes later to put the ball beyond the advancing goalkeeper. Then in the 60th minute a ball into the six yard box from the left wing eluded everyone but Jamie Busby, who scuffed it home from narrow range. Cheshunt were disappointed to hit the crossbar and see the ball bounce clear, before Aaron Morgan sealed their misery in the 90th minute with his second of the game.
The next round of the FA Cup will be drawn tomorrow and Greensnet will carry full details of our 2nd Qualifying Round tie as soon as we get them.
