Match Report

Hendon won a place in the Semi-finals of the Middlesex Senior Cup with a 3-2 win at Beaconsfield Road, home of Yeading. Frank Murphy left out Warren Kelly, Davis Haule, Paul Whitmarsh and Paul Scott from Saturdays line up and brought in Simon Clarke, Jason McKoy, Dominic Gentle and Bontcho Guentchev.

The match started rather scrappy as the rain poured down for the full 90 minutes. It took Hendon 20 minutes to test the keeper when Simon Clarke sent in a shot from 18 yards. However, shortly before Yeading took the lead with a close range finish after a cross was floated in from the right hand side, where the home side were particularly dangerous. John-Simon White had a goal disallowed after a foul on the keeper, which followed a foul on Jason McKoy. The defender was booked for the foul on McKoy, but the game restarted with a free-kick for Yeading. Both sides had a couple of half chances during the remainder of the half, and Tony Thompson continued to look particularly dangerous on the right wing. After 30 minutes a good move by the Dons gave Dominic Gentle a good chance, and he shot home for the equaliser.

The second half began with very little created, until Yeading scored midway through the half from another right wing cross. Hendon looked shaken up by this, and took some time to get back into the match. After about 80 minutes Dominic Gentle took advantage of some poor defending and put the ball into the net for the second equaliser. After this Hendon took control and Gentle had another chance very well saved by the keeper from close range. Shortly before full-time Marvyn Watson was brought down in the penalty box, and Gentle stepped up, and saw his penalty well saved, but slammed home the rebound for his second hat-trick of the season.

Mention should also be made of Jason McKoy who worked hard on the right hand side, and Paul Whitmarsh who, although only a substitute, worked hard for the whole of the second half.
