Match Report

Hendon's inability to put back-to-back wins together continued on Monday night as Kingstonian scored a late goal to sneak the points at Kingsmeadow. The difference between the teams was the performance of Ks goalkeeper Rob Tolfrey, who made a number of good saves and one truly exceptional one.

In the first half, the Greens tried to show invention and skill against one of the Ryman League Premier Division's form teams, but the final ball or the last touch was often lacking in precision.

It was the same at the other end where Peter Dean played keepy-uppy three times and - a few days after being likened to Lionel Messi by home fans - tried to emulate the Argentinian. Melvin Minter watched the ball fly just wide of the post.

When Leon Smith had a chance for Hendon, he too failed to make the goalkeeper work. His effort did not go wide of the target, but the height was far too much and the ball ended up in the seats.

The game improved after the interval and Minter produced a good save from Tyron Smith and, from the corner, Dan Bennett was too high with his attempt on goal. Dylan Casey - given the free-kick responsibility ahead of Ty Smith - also failed to trouble Minter.

When Hendon attacked, Dave Diedhiou volleyed just off target and Kezie Ibe was denied by a comfortable save from Tolfrey. Former Hendon man Sam Page then missed an opening for Ks.

With 15 minutes to go, Hendon produced the best passage of play in the match. A low cross from the right wing picked out Leon Smith, who drilled the ball towards goal, but he could only watch in admiration as Tolfrey produced a truly magnificent save.

Ten minutes later, the Hendon defence failed to deal with an attack led by they recently introduced Malachi Hudson, though they were not helped when Luke Tingey was apparently impeded off the ball. When Brendan Murphy-McVey took possession, he looked up and fired a powerful shot past Minter.

Mark Kirby was immediately sent to join the attack and he had the chance to equalise, but his shot didn't have the power or placement to beat the inspired Tolfrey. Unfortunately, Ibe was in a better position and a natural striker might have put the ball on target somewhere that the goalkeeper could not have reached.
