Match Report

Hendon came away from Marlow on Saturday afternoon with their fourth win in five pre-season friendlies, 2-1 the final score.

Fortunately the game was played before the torrential thunderstorms arrived, and whilst the pitch was dry and bumpy, both teams did their best to get the ball down and play football.

With Berkley Laurencin not risked due to a minor injury, and Sean Thomas currently on holiday, two trialist goalkeepers were brought in the shape of Rhys Matthews and Cameron Inch.

The game started with the Greens in the ascendency, and George Bowerman was unfortunate not to score early on when his strike hit the foot of the post.

However, with Hendon on top, it was no surprise when they did take the lead, Dave Diedhiou heading home an inch perfect cross from Tony Taggart.

Marlow came back into the game during the remainder of the opening period, and the Greens were grateful to Matthews who made a fine save at the feet of one of the home forwards.

The second half saw the usual raft of substitutions, although Brandon Horner, Casey Maclaren, Dean Cracknell and Tony Taggart all played the full 90 minutes in the green shirt.

The lead was doubled ten minutes into the period when, following a long period of possession, Jefferson Louis slammed the ball into the net from the edge of the area. It was no more than the big front man deserved for the effort he had put in up to then.

Chances were at a premium for the rest of the game as it became a little niggly at times, and ten minutes from time Marlow scored their consolation after the ball had been given away in midfield. Cameron Inch had no chance with the lob which was placed perfectly into the net.

With the new season now just a fortnight away, things are coming together nicely for the Greens, and the final three games, starting on Wednesday at Burnham, will hopefully ensure that the squad are fit and raring to go for the first game at Thamesmead Town.
