Match Report

Hendon came away from their first run out happy after beating a young Wealdstone side 2-1. Dave Anderson gave all available members of his first team squad a run out, including new signings Kieran Gallagher and Rob Haworth, reserve teamers Pat Sappleton and Duncan Hamilton and also trialist goalkeeper Dan Burton.

Hendon opened the game - which was played in three periods of thirty minutes - brightly and took control from the start and it was no surprise when they took the lead in the 13th minute. Eugene Ofori found an opening and his shot was deflected off a defender and rolled almost apologetically over the line.

Just six minutes later, the lead was doubled with a goal of the season contender. Dale Binns broke down the left hand side, and as the fit again Iain Duncan overlapped, Binns knocked the ball through for Duncan to cross. The cross met Jon-Barrie Bates who headed the ball past the Stones' goalkeeper.

There were few chances at either end after this, although David Hook was forced into one save in the first period. Wealdstone's reply came in the 64th minute when Mick Swaysland scored from the penalty spot after a push in the area. Both Eugene Ofori and Paul Yates had good chances late on, the latter coming after good work from Steve Forbes and Paul Towler.

All in all it was a good workout for both sides, and both managers came away satisfied with the performance of their squads.
