Match Report

Every credit is due to Yiewsley for the splendid fight they put up against Hampstead Town in their English cup-tie last Saturday at the Avenue Ground, Cricklewood Lane, the result being a draw 2-2.

Yiewsley, by virtue of the draw, had choice of ground, but arranged to visit the Town, and over 700 local followers witnessed a keen and interesting game.

Had the Town taken full advantage of their opportunities they could have won by a big margin, but notwithstanding that in the second half Hampstead were constantly on the offensive.

Yiewsley opened the scoring, indecision on the part of the Town backs permitting their inside-right, R. Warner, to break through and cleverly beat Winyard. The Town were not to be denied, however, and just before the interval A.W. Humphreys equalised from a fine pass by F. S. Rayner on the right wing.

S. Brown, who played a fine game throughout in the Yiewsley goal, saved what appeared to be certain scoring efforts by O. Warren and T. Poltock, but eventually, with the ball placed nicely by G, Garlick, J Schebsman headed into the net and gave the Town the lead.

With the result looking certain in their favour Hampstead relaxed their strenuous efforts and, with only a few minutes to go, F. W. Smith, the captain, brought the scores level with a fine shot.
