Match Report

Hampstead [Town] made good progress in their effort for the Athenian League championship by defeating Kingstonians on the Child's Hilll ground by five goals to two. With the opening advantage of wind and sun the visitors staved off defeat in the first half, and although Hampstead opened the score through S. Briscoe, McBirney promptly equalised for Kingstonians.

With the change over Hampstead soon took the lead and showed marked superiority, goals being scored by S. Briscoe (2) and C. Wise in quick succession. F. Packham, who is proving a clever and speedy right winger, added the fifth in good style, and the visitor's centre-forward, A.E. Harry, scored a goal right on time following a free kick for "hands."

After making an indifferent start with their series of League matches, followed by nasty jars in the various cup competitions, combined with the loss of one or two of their "star" players to professional clubs, Hampstead have made a wonderful revival, and since Christmas have lost only one League match with Luton Clarence away. These successes have placed them among the leaders, and the destination of the Athenian League trophy this season is now entirely in their hands, and if they can prove worthy they can win the championship. Their most dangerous opponents are St. Albans City, and what may well prove the deciding match for League honours will be played tomorrow (Saturday) at the Avenue ground, Child's Hill, where St. Albans will be entertained. Kick-off 3.30.

On Monday evening next, at 6.30, at Child's Hill, the fine Metrogas eleven will also be entertained in the Athenian League. This is the last home League match of the season.

C. Wise, Hampstead's famous inside-left, has again been honoured by inclusion in the team selected for the England v. France international match at Paris.
