Match Report

Although lacking the services of their amateur International, C. Wise, and with the added handicap of the loss of their goalkeeper, P. Bruty, for three parts of the game, Hampstead [Town] gained a decisive victory over Barnet in the Athenian League last Saturday, and thereby strengthened their position at the head of the competition. Over 3,000 attended this "local Derby"and witnessed a fine contest, although the game was marred somewhat by the serious accident to the Hampstead goalkeeper, who was badly kicked in the head in the early stages. H.S. White donned the jersey and proved an efficient substitute. Immediately after the accident F.L. Burrage scored from a well-placed free kick, taken by his brother, C. Burrage, and although playing a man short Hampstead always predominated. P. Bruty, who was taken to the Hampstead General Hospital, is making satisfactory progress. G.H. Perry, the centre-forward, was also injured, but happily, after receiving treatment from St. John's Ambulance men, he was able to return to the field. Up to the time of his injury he had been playing a remarkably good game, but although he was not lacking in pluck, his powers were weakened. Although the margin in favour of Hampstead was small, they were clearly the better side, notwithstanding they were handicapped.

For their Athenian League match tomorrow (Saturday) with Luton Clarence at Dunstable, Hampstead will again be without C. Wise, who is playing in a representative game - Athenian League v. Sussex League, at Lewes.

Catford Southend will be entertained at the Avenue Ground, Child's Hill, in a London League match, kick off 3.30.
