Match Report

Hampstead [Town] scored a fine double event on Saturday at the expense of Civil Service F.C., with a tally of seven clear goals. The Isthmian League team were ousted from the Amateur Cup competition on the home ground at Child's Hill by two goals to none, and Hampstead [Town] Reserves won their London Intermediate Cup-tie with Civil Service Reserves by five goals to none, the marksmen in this game being H.R. Tobin, A. McLean, and E. Bannerman.

Nearly 3,000 people at the Avenue ground witnessed a grand contest in the Amateur Cup match, and on the run of play in the first period Hampstead were somewhat fortunate to lead by a goal at the interval. Starting in determined fashion Hampstead were quickly to the fore with a well-judged goal by C. Wise, who took advantage of the only slip made by the visiting defence. For a long period thereafter, however, Civil Service were most prominent, and their open game with fine swinging passes accurately placed deservedly won the admiration of the home crowd. In this period C.B. Evans made several fine saves, one in particular appearing a certain scoring shot.

From ten minutes before the interval until the final whistle Hampstead had as much of the play as their opponents, and fifteen minutes from time H.S. White made victory certain, scoring a brilliant goal after an individual effort and run on the left wing. The whistle was rarely required for even technical infringements of the rules, a fine sporting encounter ending with Hampstead fair value for their win.

C.B. Evans in the concluding stages when defending the Hampstead goal sustained a slight fracture which may keep him out of the team for a week.

Tomorrow (Saturday) Harlesden Town F.C. visit the Avenue ground, Child's Hill, by arrangement, in the London Senior Cup, kick-off 2.30. Hampstead hope to field their consistently successful eleven.
