Match Report

Over 3,000 attended the English [F.A.] Cup-tie with Tufnell Park at the Child's Hill ground on Saturday, and Hampstead [Town] were unfortunte in not securing a definite result at the first encounter.

From the start to the final whistle play favoured the home side, but ill-fortune, combined with a sterling display by the visiting goalkeeper (H. Norman) prevented Hampstead from winning outright.

Tufnell Park scored first after ten minutes' play, Wodehouse running on and netting with the Hampstead team appealing for off side. It is strange that experienced players will not be guided by the whistle.

There followed considerable pressure on the Tufnell Park goal, and Young was particularly unfortunate with a splendid shot that rebounded from the upright. Wise, however, equalised before the interval from a perfect corner kick by Briscoe, whose reappearance in the Hampstead side gave general satisfaction.

Norman foiled Hampstead's many scoring chances in the concluding stages, but how Wise missed with a glorious opportunity close in is a mystery, and a source of great disappointment to himself and his fellow players.

Hampstead's defence, without being brilliant, successfully held the visitors' attack, and Little and Lewis Smith were both prominent in the half-back line throughout the game. Briscoe did not show his old form, but in the first half especially played well. G.F. Howell on the left wing was easily the best forward.
