Match Report

Golders Green journeyed to Enfield on Monday for the replay of the London Challenge Cup and were defeated by two goals to nil, and so met with their first defeat of the season.

It was a very poor game and Golders Green could hardly be recognised as the team that played on the home ground on Saturday and defeated Bromley. A. Broadis was missing from the side, G. Bucci moved to centre-half, and J. Shorland came in at left-half. G. Bucci worked hard, whilst G. Kimber, in goal, and C. George were the only players to show anything like their real form.

Golders Green were first to attack on the left, F. Boston working his way into the goal area from a pass by E. Duffield, but Atterton, at right-back for Enfield, cleared before Boston could shoot. Enfield then got away on the left. W. Boston miskicked and let Worby through. He put in a hard cross-shot which Kimber cleared for a corner.

The play that followed was more or less aimless kicking, Enfield endeavouring to play the open game, while the Green, with the exception of Duffeld, were keeping the ball close, but without result. Holmes, in the Enfield goal, was not greatly troubled, the Enfield backs breaking up any attacks that the Green made.

After half-an-hour's play Enfield took the lead through Newman following a centre by Worby, and shortly after the Green were lucky not to be two down when Kimber made several saves in quick succession. Enfield appealed for a goal, but the referee, after consulting a linesman, awarded a goal kick.

In the second half Golders Green made efforts to get on terms, but could not bfreak down the Enfield defence, although on one occasion when the Green were awarded a free kick C. George narrowly missed with a splendid shot that went just over the bar, the goalkeeper being well beaten. For a while the Green managed to get on top and it appeared that they might force extra time. Their fate, however was sealed when ccrom a shot from Constable the ball ran through W. Boston's legs, and with Kimber unsighted and helpless it entered the net.
