Match Report

Hendon continued their pre-season campaign with an unconvincing 3-1 win over landlords Wembley at Vale Farm. Despite numerous heavy showers throughout the day, the Vale Farm pitch was in excellent condition.

The Greens fielded two completely different outfield line-ups in each half, whilst goalkeeper Berkley Lawrencin played for the full 90 minutes.

The opening goal came after quarter of an hour when Harry Hunt flicked the ball over the keeper from 12 yards. It was a superb finish. Ten minutes later Kevin Maclaren headed just over the bar, and shortly afterwards Jamie Busby had a fine shot fly just wide.

Following the ten changes at half-time, it took the Greens a while to get going in the second period, and in the 59th minute Wembley equalised through Jumo Mitchell following an error in the Hendon defence.

The lead was restored immediately when Glenn Garner broke through to score with a fierce drive, following which Sam Berry had a superb strike fly narrowly over the bar.

In the 75th minute, triallist Jillmar Rodriguez was fouled just inside the penalty area, and the referee pointed to the spot. James Bent stepped forward and gave the keeper no chance as he converted the penalty.

Despite the unconvincing nature of the performance, once they had regained the lead, Hendon were never in danger of losing the game and they held on with a degree of comfort.
