Tuesday 30 October - No revenge for Dons

Hendon failed to gain revenge for this season's FA Cup defeat at the hands of Hitchin Town, going down 3-0 at Top Field for the second time this season. However, the Green's own players didn't help their cause. Matt Nolan scored Hitchin's first in the 33rd minute, but only after a Micky Woolner mistake in the area gave him a relatively easy chance. Woolner's evening got no better as he saw the red card in the 60th minute for a professional foul in the area, Shaun Marshall scoring from the resulting penalty. The third came from Cliff Akurang, putting the game beyond doubt.

The reserve and youth team pages have all been updated with full details of the past few days action, which saw the reserves lose 1-0 in the Suburban League Cup at Carshalton Athletic, the Under 18's draw 3-3 at Colney Heath having been 3-0 down, the Under 16's win 4-1 at Hanworth United in the County Cup, the Under 14's beat Belmont United 3-2, and the Under 13's win 7-2 at Larkspur Rovers B.

Tuesday 30 October - One in, one out

As mentioned late last week, Mark Cooper has signed for the club from Windsor & Eton. A central defender, Mark was with Harrow Borough last season and is seen as an ideal replacement for Chris Sparks who is leaving the club to move up north. Moving in the opposite direction is midfielder Lee O'Donnell who has joined Windsor to gain more first team experience.

Monday 29 October - Hendon look for revenge at Hitchin

Hendon travel to Hitchin Town for the second time in two weeks tomorrow evening, and will be out for revenge following the FA Cup extra time defeat at Top Field when the Canaries came back from a goal down to win 3-1. Hendon go into the game fresh after a 10 day break, while Hitchin will be looking to bounce back from their cup defeat at Aldershot Town on Saturday afternoon. Let's see as many supporters there as possible to support the team as we look to move up the table. A win tonight could see us move up to 12th place in the table.

Friday 26 October - Last night's meeting

About a dozen supporters met with manager Dave Anderson last night to discuss the season so far, and what lies ahead for the club in an informal, friendly meeting. A number of topics were covered with many of the questions revolving around the players. In terms of the injured players, it is hoped that Iain Duncan will return to action around Christmas along with Ricci Crace, who happily doesn't require an operation on his injured knee. Gary McCann has returned to first team action by going on loan to Slough Town for a month, while Marvyn Watson will be returning to the club after this coming weekend, following his month on loan at Carshalton Athletic.

Chris Sparks will be leaving the club shortly as he is moving up north with his family. We wish Chris all the best for the future, and thank him for his efforts over the past few months. Coming in as a replacement is central defender Mark Cooper, who joins us from Windsor & Eton, having left Harrow Borough in the summer.

It was agreed that the players really appreciate the positive support that the supporters have given in recent games, particularly at Hitchin. Dave Anderson commented that the players appreciated the fact that they were applauded off the pitch at Hitchin, despite having lost the replay in extra-time. He also reiterated that not only do the supporters need to support the players when they are doing well, they also need to support them when the going gets tough.

It is currently planned that the next managers meeting will take place early in the new year - look out for details in the matchday programmes and on Greensnet.

Saturday 20 October - Binns off as Dons slump

Hendon slumped to a 3-1 defeat at Maidenhead's York Road ground today, despite taking the intiative throughout the first half. Hendon started brightly, Ruggles riffling home from 20 yards after only 11 minutes. Hendon kept up the pressure but failed to make it count. Maidenhead had by far the better of the second half. A goal in the 50th minute from Obinna Ulasi was followed two minutes later by Dale Binns' dismissal for a second caution. Maidenhead continued to pressurise Hendon and scored two further goals - Paul Kelly in the 72nd minute and Adrian Allen in the 87th sealing the points.

Saturday 20 October - McCann out on loan

Goalkeeper Gary McCann has joined Slough Town on a months loan, joining up with manager Steve Browne, who made a handful of appearances for Hendon, and former captain Gary Fitzgerald. This is the next stage of his rehabilitation as it is felt that he would be better off playing first team football than reserve team football.

Saturday 20 October - Another striker signed on loan

Experienced striker Paul Fewings has signed on a months loan from Chesham United as Dave Anderson looks to bring some more experience into the squad. Fewings has scored twice for Chesham this season, but has not been a regular in the side. He has previous experience with Boston United, as well as a short period with Farnborough Town last season, for whom he made his debut against us.

Friday 19 October - Weekend preview

The first team will be looking to bounce back from the disappointment at Hitchin on Tuesday night when they travel to Maidenhead United on Saturday afternoon. The Magpies lie just one place ahead of Hendon, on the same number of points having played a game more. Three points are vital for both clubs as neither want to get dragged into a basement battle to steer clear of relegation. For those that are unable to make it to Maidenhead, the reserves are at home to Dulwich Hamlet in the Suburban League as they look to continue their recent good run of form. For details of the Sunday youth team fixtures, call the Greensline tonight on 09066 555836.

Tuesday 16 October - Extra-time despair for Greens

Hendon dropped out of the FA Cup in the qualifying rounds for the second successive season following defeat against Hitchin Town tonight. Hendon took the lead in the 68th minute through a freak goal from on-loan player Phil Ruggles, who deflected a Nick Webb clearance into the net from an acute angle. However, the first sign that things were not to go Hendon's way came in the 89th minute where Hitchin's Ian Scott scrambled a late equaliser in. Hitchin stamped their authority on extra-time, and Hendon conceeded two further goals, Matt Nolan and Shaun Marshall scoring in the 105th and 110th minutes respectively.

Monday 15 October - Youth and reserve update

Saturday 13 October - Greens to visit Hitchin

Hendon see a quick return to Hitchin on Tuesday night, due to today's 0-0 draw at the LOOT Stadium. The tie saw neither side get any closer to a potentially lucrative 1st Round tie against a league club, although both sides had the chances to win. Hendon had the better of the first half, but were unable to dominate the second, with Hitchin looking the better side by the end of the game, Hook being lucky to avoid conceeding a penalty.

Friday 12 October - Weekend preview

Hendon hit the FA Cup trail once again this weekend as they entertain Hitchin Town on Saturday afternoon. Hitchin have had a poor start to the season, and currently lie 21st in the league, but it will not be an easy game for the Greens. There is £10,000 prize money riding on the game, so make sure you get along to the ground and get behind the team and help us create a good atmosphere and boost the player's confidence.

Meanwhile, the reserves travel to Northwood on Saturday afternoon for Suburban League fixture, while on Sunday, the Under 14's and Under 13's are both in League Cup action at Watling Club and at home against Larkspur Rovers respectively. The Under 16's and Under 15's are both without a game.

Friday 12 October - Interview with Dave Anderson

The regular weekly interview with Dave Anderson can now be heard on the Greensline (call 09066 555836) and he talks in great detail about the Mark Pye situation. The interview will remain online until 5pm on Saturday afternoon.

Posted at 13:45

Tuesday 09 October - The reason for Pye's rapid departure

We now have the full story behind Mark Pye's brief stay at the club. Dave Anderson brought Mark to the club late last week, as he has known him for many years and they are old friends. Mark made an appearance in the reserves on Saturday with a view to signing for the club. Dave wrote in tonight's programme about Mark's arrival saying "I have known Mark for a long time, I also know and have worked with George Bog and I spent three different spells with Harrow Borough, so I am familiar with all three parties."

"Other clubs had invited Mark to join them following his departure from Earlsmead and so I had a long chat with him and decided that I would bring him here. I am still, as always, on the look-out for other players to strengthen the squad and if they become available, and we can afford them, then I will hopefully be able to persuade them to join us at Hendon. We have a lot of youngsters in the side, and more coming through, but we still need to have a good backbone of experience in the line up."

However, as people will be aware, the signing was unpopular with many supporters, and the club and the website received several comments expressing their upset and annoyance at the arrival of Mark to the club. As a result, secretary Graham Etchell called vice-chairman Andrew Landesberg to explain the situation, and Andrew in turn called Dave Anderson, and it was agreed that it was in the best interests of Hendon Football Club that the signing of Mark Pye would not be persued and that he would be released by the club with immediate effect.

Tuesday 09 October - Greens improve against Swifts

Hendon put in an improved performance tonight after the win at Southend Manor, with a victory at home to Heybridge Swifts. Hendon didn't dominate the match, but comfortably dealt with what Heybridge could muster, both Paul Towler and René Street putting in good performances, whilst a solitary goal from Phil Ruggles in the ninth minute from a Eugene Ofori cross earnt all three points for the Dons.

Tuesday 09 October - Pye's registration cancelled

The club have announced this afternoon that they will not be persuing the registration of Mark Pye, and that he is no longer with the club with immediate effect. This decision comes after a long chat between vice-chairman Andrew Landesberg and manager Dave Anderson.

Monday 08 October - Two new signings for Hendon

Two new signings appeared for Hendon in the reserve fixture on Saturday afternoon. Mark Pye, who made 17 appearances for the club in 1998/99 has rejoined the club from Harrow Borough, while Byron Bubb is a 20 year old midfielder who was released by Millwall in the summer, and previously played for one of the Hendon youth teams in 1996/97.
