Sunday 31 August - Hendon memorabilia on eBay

Some items of Hendon memorabilia have gone up for auction on eBay. Consisting of some old player photos and some FA Cup and FA Amateur Cup programmes with some additional items, they can be found on the link below. Auctions will end on Wednesday 10th September. We have raised well over £4000 for the Supporters Trust through eBay, and continue to be on the lookout for more items. They needn't be Hendon related as you can sell almost anything through the site. If you have anything you no longer need and would otherwise be throwing or giving away, please speak to Steve Rogers as he will almost certainly be interested in taking them off your hands. Further items will appear on a regular basis, and we'll let you know when this happens.

In the previous round Royston beat our future landlords Wembley 4-0 in a replay following a 1-1 draw. Royston is in north east Hertfordshire a little bit further up the A10 from Ware. Directions to the ground can be found on the link below. They currently ply their trade in the Spartan South Midlands League Division One, three steps below the Greens, and are lying fifth in the table, although they have games in hand on the teams above them. Saturday 30 August - Strong Stones defeat Dons

Hendon were beaten 3-2 this afternoon by a Maidstone United side who were physically stronger than the Greens. It must be said that Maidstone used their extra strength perfectly legally and the match officials had an easy day with just one booking issued in the 90 minutes. Hendon were very slow out of the blocks and went a goal behind when the ball was given away and the Stones broke away setting James Pinnock up to score. Two minutes later the Greens gave away a free kick which was headed home by Kevin Watson, but then Hendon sprung to life and pulled a goal back in the 16th minute when Chris Bangura finished off a fine move. From there on the game was very even and clear chances were limited. In the 85th minute Lloyd Blackman effectively made the game safe for the Stones, but Brian Haule's late consolation, which came after excellent work from Jamie Busby, meant that the scoreline showed an accurate reflection of the game as a whole.

Monday 25 August - Defensive errors cost Greens

Despite having more possession throughout the 90 minutes, Hendon were made to pay for individual defensive errors as they lost 3-0 to Ashford Town (Middx) this afternoon. The game opened with the Greens well on top but totally against the run of play Byron Harrison opened the scoring for Ashford in the 26th minute. On the stroke of half-time Scott Harris doubled the lead, and the same player scored again early in the second half. Harris was denied his hat-trick by an excellent save by debutant keeper Joe Welch.

In a game of very few chances, Sutton United ran out 1-0 winners against Hendon this afternoon at Gander Green Lane. The decisive goal came in the 38th minute when Gavin McCullum scored from the penalty spot following a clear foul in the 18 yard box. Hendon's best chance of an equaliser came early in the second half when Sam Byfield fired narrowly wide after a good run.

Saturday 23 August - Player news

There have been a couple of additions to the playing squad over the past few days. First of all Daniel Dyer, who made 32 appearances and scored 6 goals for us last season, has signed to play for us again this season, and joining us from Bishop's Stortford is 19 year old goalkeeper Joe Welch, who was formerly a trainee at Southend United. Leaving the club, albeit on a temporary basis, is Leon Nelson who has gone on loan to Northwood.

Friday 22 August - First batch of players sign on

Gary McCann is delighted this evening to announce that he has so far been able to register 18 players for the forthcoming season. It is expected that there will be further additions to the list of players who have registered over the next few weeks as the pre-season preparations continue.

Four players join us from Hillingdon Borough in the shape of goalkeeper Barclay Lawrencin, striker Leon Nelson, central defender Mark Kirby and left winger Sam Byfield. Supporters will remember Sam as a teenager when he made three substitute first team appearances in the 2002/03 season.

Joining us from Boreham Wood is experienced striker Chris Bangura and the returning Craig Vargas, whilst from Harrow Borough comes attacking midfielder James Bent. There are also a further trio of new defenders joining us. Kevin Maclaren, the younger brother of Casey, joins from Walton Casuals having previously been with Woking, Frederick Yebuah joins us from local football, whilst Frank Wilson has signed, having been out of football last season.

Also signing from last seasons squad are Luke Blackmore, James Burgess, Jamie Busby, Lubomir Guentchev, Rakatahr Hudson, Marc Leach, Casey Maclaren and Lee O'Leary.

Wednesday 20 August - Busby reaches his century

Jamie Busby made his 100th appearance for the club last night. The young midfielder joined the club during the 2005/06 season and became a regular in the side during the following season. He has scored 10 goals for the club, some of them being rather spectacular, particularly one in the 4-1 win at Leyton in December 2006. The club would like to congratulate Jamie on reaching the milestone, and we all look forward to the next 100 appearances.

Wednesday 20 August - Hendon drop two points

Hendon dropped two points at Margate after leading 2-0 at half-time last night. Brian Haule opened the scoring in the 2nd minute, and following a half where Hendon totally controlled the game, Mark Kirby doubled the lead shortly before the break. The second half was a different story as Margate took control and pulled a goal back in the 69th minute through Wayne Wilson. In the 78th minute Louis Smith equalised, but sadly for the Greens, Luke Blackmore was badly hurt in the build up to the goal following an accidental collision that meant that he hit the frame of the goal. We are currently awaiting news on his condition and will update the website as soon as we hear anything. James Burgess took over for the rest of the game in the absence of a specialist goalkeeper on the bench, and did everything he had to do with some degree of comfort.

Thursday 07 August - Supporters Trust Press Release

Following last night's SGM, the Supporters Trust issued a press release at 8.00am this morning. At the meeting Trust members approved a proposal that the Trust should reach an agreement in principle with Hendon Football Club's current owners, the Arbiter Group, to take ownership of the Club by 31st October 2008. Trust members were also advised that discussions are ongoing with the relevant football authorities to securing agreement that the Club can play their home games at Wembley FC's Vale Farm ground as soon as possible.

The full text is as follows

On Wednesday 6 August, the Board of the Hendon Football Club Supporters Trust (the Trust) held a special general meeting (SGM) at Hendon Football Club's Claremont Road ground. Trust members were asked to approve a proposal that the Trust should reach an agreement in principle with Hendon Football Club's (the Club) current owners, the Arbiter Group, to take ownership of the Club by 31st October 2008. All Trust members in attendance voted to approve the proposal and a letter setting out the agreement in principle has now been signed by both parties.

There are many details to be agreed but the two parties will now work together to execute a formal Agreement and to obtain the approval of the relevant authorities. In the meantime, the two parties will work together to ensure stability in the run-up to the coming season.

In addition, Trust members were advised that steps have now been taken to secure the permission of the relevant football authorities for the Club to enter into a groundsharing agreement with Wembley Football Club. All parties are working towards securing agreement in time for the Club to play at Wembley Football Club's Vale Farm ground. This agreement will be effected as soon as possible.

Simon Lawrence, Chairman of the Trust, said:

"The first key step towards Trust ownership was taken back in March 2006 when the Trust was formed. The agreement in principle to take ownership of the Club represents the second key step in the process and moves us closer to our goal of ensuring the long-term survival of the Club.

"While it is desperately disappointing to have to leave Claremont Road, we have been aware for some time that our time there will come to a close at some point and we have been in discussions with Wembley Football Club for quite a while.

"We are nervous about the challenges ahead but excited at the prospect of securing our great club's long-term future."

For more information, please contact Simon Lawrence on 07976-907486 or email him at simon.hendon@btinternet.com.

Tuesday 05 August - Hendon draw at Potters Bar

The Greens continued their pre-season preparations with a 2-2 draw at Potters Bar Town on a very wet evening. It was probably the flattest of the pre-season performances so far, and it was something of a surprise when the Greens took the lead shortly before half-time against the run of play. Dave Maissa Diedhiou was the scorer with a fine shot. Potters Bar equalised early in the second half before Lubo Guentchev restored the lead in the 74th minute. The hosts scored their second equaliser with 10 minutes to go with a blistering strike.
